OEM Cloud Control: Rob Zoeteweij

Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud / Grid Control

Monday October 3rd – Database performance tuning: Getting the best out of Oracle EM

Tariq Farooq

an Oracle ACE en founder of BrainSurface

During the presentation a clear explanation if given of the Database performance process using Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control. Showing several examples from the Database Performance Tab and showing the advantage of several linked features like Top Activity, Blocking Sessions.

The presentation next focuses on the three A’s for Database Performance Tuning:

  • ASH  (Activity Summery History)
  • AWR (Activity Workload Repository)
  • ADDM (Automatic Data Diagnostic Monitoring)

Realizing AWR is the successor of the former statspack feature, several examples are given of how to interpret some of the output.

I think a very good and solid presentation, focusing merely on novice users of which there are a lot in the OEM GC arena.

During the installation of OEM GC 11.1 on AIX, there was no auto discovery of the Middleware Components

While doing the installation of OEM GC 11.1 on AIX 6.1, I noticed that there was no automatic discovery of the Middleware targets.

This is due to bug 9969664.

The solution provided in MOS Note:

Error when discovering and monitoring secured weblogic domains on AIX platforms (using t3s/iiops protocols) in EMGC11.1 (Doc ID 1208874.1)

did the trick for me and discovered the 8 additional Middleware targets.

Creating a Physical Standby Database using OEM GC

This Paper is about the creation of a physical Stanby Database using OEM GC.

You will see that there is really nothing to it and using the Data Guard Broker, performing a switchover is as easy as 1,2,3,.

BTW, this works in both OEM GC 10.2.0.5 and 11.1

Oracle Grid Infrastructure / RAC Provisioning

Using the OEM GC Provisioning and Automated Patching Pack, you are able to provision a complete Oracle RAC Cluster, including the Grid Infrastructure and creation of an ASM Instance and a RAC Database.

In this paper I show an example of how I was able to do the provisioning of Grd Infrastructure and Oracle RAC on a 2 node OracleVM Cluster.

New feature – Provisioning Profiles

New in OEM GC 11.1 – Provisioning is the ability to save your input in a Provisioning Profile.

If you then use this Profile a next time you schedule a Deployment Procedure, most of the input variables are filled based on the saved values in the Profile.

Read about how to use this feature in:

Upgrading Agent 10.2.0.5 to 11.1 as easy as 1,2,3…

After the upgrade of OMS 10.2.0.5 to 11.1 in my test environment, I started upgrading some of the remote agents.

OEM GC 11.1 includes an Upgrade Agent feature that allows you to upgrade the 10.2.0.5 Agent to 11.1 on multiple nodes at once.

Check out this document to see what I did and how easy it is.
